Black Gnat is a dry fly pattern. It is a traditional style, duck quill winged black dry fly and about as old school as it gets. A must have attractor pattern which is great for fishing early and late in the day.
There are times when you see clouds of small black insects hovering over the water on the river. Inevitably some of these will fall into the water and trout will gobble them up. When you see these swarms of bugs in the air and there is no sustained hatch going on, it is the best time to use this black gnat dry fly. This small dry fly for trout is a great imitator for any dark insect.
